Awesome browns in Thingvallavatn

Danish angler Nils Folmer Jörgensen with an outrageous brown trout! Nils has caught several this spring and released them all, as do many anglers on the lake.
Icelands most famous lake, Thingvallavatn, has been producing some out of this world brown trout this spring, some of the browns being awesome massive beasts ranging to 20 pounds.
There has been a stocking program on the lake for several years following a sharp decline in the brown trout stock due to spawning grounds being destroyed. These last few years have seen a healthy come back for the browns and the fishing has been picking up dramatically.

Another amazing specimen from Nils's catch, catching a breather before being released.
That is not to say that all and everyone are catching fish, but those who have come to know the lake, are consistently getting some unworldly action. Many are using fly rods, others are spinning, and bait fishing is also legal to a certain extent. Worming being fine, mackerel and other baits are though banned.
Everyone seems to be in with a good chance, no matter what they are using. It´s difficult to say how many brown trout have been landed, as there is no catch book and there are stories going around. However, it is a sure thing that the fishing this spring has had quite a few ups and many of the trout are weighing from 10 to 20 pounds.
