Icelandic rock star writes book about Laxa in Adaldal

Bubbi Morthens with a big mws salmon from Laxá last summer.
Icelandic rock icon and avid fly fisher Bubbi Morthens is writing a book about the Nes beats on Laxá í Aðaldalur. After his introduction to the Nes area he hooked and landed several big salmon and lost a monster estimated by the guides at being somewhere in between 30 and 40 pounds. Yes, they may still be found here in Iceland but they are rarely hooked and even more seldom landed as most anglers in Iceland are fishing for smaller fish and are hardly equipped for such rare specimens.
Big one comes to the net in one of the rivers most famous pools, Kirkjuhólmakvísl.
Bubbi says his book, which will probably be ready for publication next year, is his humble way of opening his heart towards a river which has given him so much. Bubbi has assembled a host of tall tales from the Nes beats as well as interviewing most of the rivers top guides. He will also publish a close description of all the pools and how to fish them. The illustrations will be a blend of old and new. Many of the old photos will come from a collection belonging to the family of Guðmundur from Miðdal, a famous Icelandic artist who fished the river for years during the middle of the twentieth century. In those times, huge salmon, many exceeding 26-28 pounds, were caught in a single season. These are photos that few have seen before as the Miðdal family have not opened them up for the public until now.
More later on Bubbi‘s book, as well as others up and coming, among them a beautiful piece of work on the Laxá í Kjós which was published before Christmas last year and it‘s followup which tackles the river Langá, another top west coast river. The books are the first in a new series of high quality books on top Icelandic salmon rivers.
