British Colombian fly fishing teacher April Vokey will be a feature on the Midfjardara this summer as the rivers outfitter Fishing and Hunting Destinations, www.fhd.is has put up a fly fishing shool on the river, exclusively for women.
FHD manager Rafn Valur Alfreðsson told us: We have put in two two day fishing groups that will be exclusively filled by women learning to fly fish. We have four teachers, among them April Vokey from British Colombia, Canada. Despite her young age, she is a vastly experienced fly fisherman, teacher and guide in BC. She certainly has a lot to offer and we expect all our female clients to leave us as better fly fishermen. It is beyond doubt that fly fishing for salmon has picked up considerably among women, perhaps especially in Iceland where several exclusive womens angling groups have been formed over the last few years. Women are excellent fly fishermen and have the Midas touch for fishing that many men are lacking. We expect these groups to be fun and rewarding.“
