One of Iceland‘s oldest and best established fly fishing schools will be operating again this season despite a new outfitter overtaking the Langa, which has been the schools venue for years.

The new outfitters of Langa is a joint operation involving Lax ehf and the Angling club of Reykjavík. They have just declared that the Fly fishing school of Langa will stay in operation. The school is the countries oldest and most established fly fishing school.

It was founded by Icelandic media man Ingvi Hrafn Jonsson, who leased Langa for years, the first years the middle beats and then when the river was let as a whole, he came out with the highest bid and managed the entire river, only leaving it last year after twenty years of involvement as an outfitter on Langa. A nice parting gift for him was Langa‘s superb record season of 2008.

The Langa fly fishing school has from the start boasted some of Icelands best fly fishermen as tutors. But one of the schools biggest beauties has been the fact that the fishing and teaching has been done very close to prime time and the students have had outstanding chances of actually catching a salmon. Many of the 270 graduets over the years actually caught their first fly caught salmon while learning the „trade“ on Langa‘s banks. It will be the same this time round, as the schools days have been determined for 23.-25.June. Just when the main runs are starting.
