The big Laxa in Thingeyjarsysla is still producing brown trout fishing that you might say is surpassing the five star limit. Unbelievable catches have been recorded both above and below the dam at Bru. Anglers landing literally hundreds of fish.

Below the dam, a seasoned old guide, Siggi Fjeldsted, was guiding two foreign clients on the Stadartorfa and Mulatorfa, and fishing over the space of two days they caught well over two hundred browns, most of them 1 to 2 pounds with the biggest fish ranging to over 4 pounds, having in fact quite a few of them. They mostly used small green Nobblers and some local improvised stuff from Siggi, nymphs tied from colored ear pin cotton! Siggi said that they had seen the fish without any action for several hours, but come evening on the first day, they suddenly started a feeding frenzy and the fishing was non stop after that.

Above the dam, in Myvatnssveit, the superb start carried on into the following groups and recently over five hundred browns had been recorded in the catch book in the lodge at Hof. The fish are bigger above the dam than below as an average and there have been many browns in Myvatnssveit ranging from 5 to 7 pounds. Last year, some thought they could see the start of a downswing in the ecosystem of the river, something that crops up every now and then. The pessimists were predicting that it would carry on into this season, but so far it has not. Quite the contrary, the ecosystem seems to be thriving beautifully and the trout are big and fat and healthy.

Excellent brown trout fishing has also been recorded on the Litlaa, a river not that far away from the big Laxa in the northeast.
