Huge browns on Minnivallalaekur
The brown trout fishing on Minnivallalaekur has stepped up in recent weeks and some stunning catches have been recorded. Among them a 14 pounder and on another day, a couple each had an 8 pound brown on a dry fly.

According to the outfitter, Throstur Ellidason the 14 pounder was caught in Stodvarhylur this week, a huge, gnarled old trout that was put back in. The day before two eight pounders came to dry flies in Vidarhólmi. „The fishing started slowly due to a very cold spring, but recently things have been going really well and our guests tell us that there are a lot of big browns all over the river. The group that had the before mentioned big trout also had several 3 to 4 pounders to add gloss to their stay on the river,“ Throstur told us.
Throstur, who operates the outfitter Strengir, www.strengir.is will open his two main salmon rivers on the 1rst of July. They are Breiddalsa and Hrutafjardara. Both have had definite salmon sightings already, so Throstur and his staff are expecting a lively start to their salmon season this year.
