Of the Icelandic rivers so far started, the best „opening“ was without a doubt on Langa yesterday. Sixteen hooked, ten landed, it is one of the best starts for the river for ages. Far better than last year which turned out to be a record season.

Einar Páll Garðarsson from the outfitter company Lax ehf told us that salmon were showing at various points and three of the landed salmon had been caught further upstream than was considered normal considering the „time of day“, two of them just below Sveðjufoss, the second ladder, and one in Hornhylur, the second pool below the Sveðjufalls.

Most of the salmon have been typical Langa grilse but some are bigger and the fish counter in Skuggafoss, which measures the passing fish has found one of almost 90 cm and several of over 70 cm. Last night, new fish were entering the main pools below the Skuggafoss ladder and counter. It looks like a whopper season for Langa, which on top of it all, has a water regulating dam at the lake headwaters which gives the river favorable water levels far longer than neighbouring rivers
