Beautilful 13-14 pound fresh run salmon from Strengir.

Grimsa took its time to wake up. The outfitters themselves and several of their guests started the fishing yesterday afternoon, but the start was slow. This morning however was a different story and several important pools appeared to be occupied.

The first sightings of salmon on this gem of a river date back to the first week of June. On and off peopled were observing fresh fish, most notably from the Miðberg cliff in the run below the Laxfoss. So everybody was quite optimistic. Yet, despite pretty good conditions yesterday only one fish was landed, a 78 cm hen fish from Stekkjarstrengur which is almost half way up the valley, far above the falls.  It was actually a bit puzzling. This morning however the season parade started as four fish were landed and several salmon where sighted in pools such as Laxfoss, Svartistokkur, Viðbjóður and Strengir. All these fish were mws‘s, the biggest one 86 cm and aprox 13-14 pounds, caught in Strengir.

So Grimsa is looking like its old former self again and the memory of the first afternoon wiped out! A mere blip, perhaps due to the fact that the anglers themselves may well have been rusty following the long hard winter.
