Vatnsdalsa has been producing its usual twenty pounders already despite the fact that not many salmon have been caught yet. The fishing is trudging on and every day is producing some big ones. Two so far are in the twenty pound-region.

The second group landed nine salmon and people were pretty happy as the conditions were not very good, some cold weather, high water levels etc. But the fish were big and one of them actually 98 cm. The local guidelines tell us to write it as a 9,4 kg(around 19 pounds) in the catch book. Earlier another of the same lenght was caught and also scribbled in as a 19 pounder. However the Vatnsdala guides are adamant that both of the fish were well over twenty pounds as they were massively built and not looking like 19 pounders at all.

Other news from Vatsndals is, that the first grilse has been caught, a 2,2 kg fresh run fish. Others were jumping so we expect some grilse action over the next days and weeks. The water level has made the rivers top pool, Hnausastrengur, difficult to negotiate so the top producing pool so far has been the Hólakvörn, two pools up from Hnausi.
