A few rivers open up tomorrow morning, among them Breiddalsa and Hrutafjardara. There have been regular sightings in both rivers for quite a while now and a trout fisherman fishing above the Breiddalsa‘s Beljandi falls actually caught the first salmon last weekend.

This has not happened before on Breiddalsa. The fish was a good looking mws caught in Klapparklifshylur. The counter in Beljandi had indeed confirmed a few fish but they might just as well have been trout. The salmon caught however will determin that at least one of the fish in the counter was a salmon. Throstur Ellidason, outfitter for both rivers told us today that he was anticipating a good season opening as several salmon had been seen in important pools already on both rivers. „The first salmon are in the rivers and ready for us. The water levels are the best they have been at the start of the season for quite a few years now. So we are all set and ready to go." The above photo is from the Breiddalsa outfitter and shows the umexpected salmon.
