Three nights ago a huge run of big sea trout entered the Laxa in Kjos. As is their habit on the river, they passed quietly during the night and were only discoverd the morning after when one of the guides took a drive through the „meadow“ beats to see how the pools looked following the off season. He found that there were hundreds of sea trout all over the beat!
According to top guide Einar Páll Garðarsson there were as many as 200 in single pools such as Káranesfljot and that the size was from 2 to 4 kilos, meaning 4 to 8 pounds. „Alas, so far we have had bad conditions to catch them as we have had receeding water evels and the section is very flat and difficult to fish when the wind is hardly moving. A little wind and a rain shower is all we need, then we‘ll see some serious fishing and knowing the weather in this country we will hardly have to wait for long,“ Einar told us. He also determined that salmon runs were on the up. The fishing started off well on the river and things are looking really good.
