Vatnsdalsa: Slow fishing picking up

The fishing on Vatnsdalsa is still a bit slow but improving nevertheless, as weather conditions have become more favorable as well as runs obviously have been stepping up over the past few days.

 Fallegur lax úr VatnsdalsáMost of the northern rivers in Iceland have had slow starts and while they all had several early runners, the main runs have not picked up until recently. It started earlier in the west and southwest and the rivers in those regions are now filling up with salmon. But we are not yet into prime time on the northland rivers so patience should be practiced.

Yesterday evening over 30 salmon had been written into the Vatnsdalsa catch book. There is hardly a grilse among them yet, two have been around the 20 pound mark, one 18-19 pounds and the rest very respectable mws‘s averaging just over 80 cm, which accounts for 11-12 pound fish. There has been fine trout fishing on the side so most rods have had a lot of action although the salmon.
