Straumar beat takes off!
The main pool on Straumar, lower Bugt and Strenghorn. That's it and the place fills up with salmon.
The Straumar beat at the junction of Nordura and Hvita took off recently and four days of fishing with the two daily rods saw 57 salmon landed. You heard right: 57. This is in fact not that uncommon but the conditions need to be right.
First a group fishing at the start of July, 2.-4th landed 26 salmon. The next group did even better and landed 31. Most were grilse but a few were mws‘s. Not many though. Straumar is only a very short beat and the two rods usually rotate on the same pool lower Bugt/Strenghorn when the fishing is so hot. This is what happens at the Straumar beat when the runs are strong at the same time the water levels are comng down in Nordura. That causes the runs to stop at the juntction instead of steaming up the Nordura. They have in fact been doing so also, as one recent group on Nordura had over 150 salmon over three days. So the region is very strong these days, a huge amount of fish running and resulting in tremendous fishing.
