Laxa in Kjos: Great fishing despite the conditions

Laxa in Kjos has been productive over the past several days despite the conditions being very bad. The water levels have been falling and the weather has been sunny and very hot by Icelandic standards. Yet, the last group on Laxa landed 60 salmon which is outstanding under the circumstances. There are also huge enigmatic sea trout on the prowl but they are far more difficult to catch.
The group that fished util noon today landed 60 salmon and they are mostly being caught on the bottom beats which seem blue and silver and alive with the ceaseless splashing of leaping salmon. Most are grilse and then there are the huge sea trout. Every day the biggest fish entered into the catch books are sea trout. Only few are caught due to the calm sunny weather and the low water, as they are in the slow flat pools on the Meadow section. But those that have been landed over the past few days have weighed an estimated 8 to 11 pounds. There are literally hundreds of these sea trout in 10 to 15 pools in the area and once the conditions get right, some people are going to have a party!
We need some rain so the huge grilse runs will be coaxed into swimming further up the river. While the river is low and the weather hot, they have a tendancy to stay in the fast bottom section.
