Midfjardara: Hitching is the way to go

Love at first sight on Midfjardara....

Midfjardara has been ticking along nicely yet the water levels have been dropping so things could be better. At least there are substantial numbers of fish in the rivers and new arrivals entering  every day. Due to the lack of water, hitching with super small flies is giving the best results.

According to Rafn Valur, the outfitter, hitching is the way of life on Midfjardara these days. Recently 14 salmon were landed in a single day and every one of them fell to the hitch. Other days have been much the same. The total for Midfjaradara as we speak is just over 100 salmon and the mother river Midfjardara is the top producer. Water levels are making Vestura and Austura difficult while the Nupsa is down to a mere trickle. We do though have some rain in the forecasts for the northern part of Iceland in the near future, so things may hot up again before we manage to blink an eye.
