The old bridge pool on Haffjardara, some really huge salmon held there this summer but were never caught, and finally moved out.

The season has drawn to a close on the Haffjardara and the fishing was outstanding although it never came close to last seasons phenomenal record breaking season. Eleven weeks elapsed without rain and the lowering water levels eventually took its toll.

„We are delighted with our 1.644 salmon. Despite being almost 400 less than during the recrod season last year this is still our next highest total ever and the river was brimming with salmon at the end. We have to look at the fact that it never rained for eleven weeks and when it finally did, there were only two days left of the season. We had strong runs throughout, despite the low water, and the highest average of mws‘s over the whole of the western coast. Plus that, we have seen several really huge salmon this season, several of them quite easily upto 30 pounds. It would have been really nice if someone had actually hooked one of them. Our biggest caught though was an estimated 22 pounder,“ Einar Sigfússon told us, Einar is one of the joint owners of the river which is one of Iceland‘s finest.

This is one of Iceland‘s best results this season, Haffjardara is fished with only six rods and some of the groups use only four.
