Laxa, upper beats only average

Brown trout fishing on the upper beats on the Big Laxa only managed to stay average last season and as the season wore on the suspicion was lurking that a downswing was on the cards, something that happens all the time and takes varying spells to repair.
Fishing started well enough but as the middle of the season closed in the fishing started to drop off, plus the fact that many of the fish that were caught were thin. Also, according to experts on the beats, the larger fish seemed to disappear and the majority of the trout became 1,5 to 2 pounds. This biological curve hits the area every now and then, the midge stocks fail and in the domino effect, so do the ducks and trout. But they always come back and recover very quickly. We found out that Myvatnssveit had a total of 3.129 which is only average and much less than several of the last seasons. Comparing to 2007, then 3.300 browns had been booked by August the 13th, with 17 days still to fish the total was already higher than the finar total was this year.
Laxardalur. We will soon get back to you with the total for 2008. The pattern was similar down there. Started well enough but then faded. It didn’t though seem as compelling in Laxardalur and that would not be the first time that the beats did not go hand in hand into the downswings.
