Scotman Lochy Porter landed a record breaking brown trout in the Mývatnssveit beat of the Big Laxá. It wasn´t the heaviest one ever but it was the one with the longest ever measurements!

Lochy´s trout took a Hares ear nymph in the greatest “big fis” pools on the river, Geirastaðaskurður and fought hard for almost fifeteen minutes. As he eased the fish towards the guides landing net, the hook straightened up as the meshes engulfed the fish!

As close call! The trout measured 80 cm and weighed 5,4 kilos, just under 11 icelandic pounds. Three previous browns from the upper trout beats on Laxá have weighed 13 pounds, 6,5 kilos, but their lengths were 72, 74 and 75 cm so they were obviously significally fatter then this one.

To add to this, both the major brown trout beats above the dam have produced excellently this season, despite a very cold spring and early summer. Recently the weather has changed a little to the better and some days have offered dry fly fishing. Until then, upstream nymphing and streamers were getting the action.
