Minnivallalaekur has started off excellently despite extreamly frosty conditions early on. The starting group landed eleven browns despite staring off in 11 below on Celcius minus the huge wind factor, and it was really blowing during those first days. The river has already produced several of the huge browns that it is so renouned for.

Among the opening groups eleven trout were specimens ranging to 70 cm which are aprox 10 pounders. They were mostly grabbing black weighed Nobblers. The next groups were doing ok until a group of Norwegians arrived and landed 15 fish, several of which reached the 70 cm mark. They fished very small  tungsten headed nymphs upstream and the biggest trout was landed on a number 22 hanging from a 5 pound leader!

The biggest of the season so far fell to an Icelandic angler in the group that took over from the Norwegians. Using a Black Ghost streamer, he landed an 83 cm cock fish in great conditions, following a furious half hour struggle. The fish was quite rightly estimated in the 14 to 16 pound category. Fish of this extreame size are caught on the Minnivallalaekur every season.
