Huge browns caught on „Minni“
The world renouned brown trout river Minnivallalækur has been on and off as usual in April. But recently it definatly was turned „on“ and some monster trout were landed!
The bigger one on the right, the smaller one below!
Being an inland river, the Minni is often affected by cold during the early spring weeks and that has been the case this spring although there have been moments. One BIG moment was on the evening of last Sunday when Danish angler Nils Folmer Jörgensen and his wife Ásta hooked and landed two monster browns which they weighted in the landing net, the bigger one being 8,1 kg, the other 5 kg!
Both were taken on dry flies which is not the norm for Minni this early in the season. But, having come upon the pool during the still of the evening, they saw several of the Minni-monsters feeding greedily in the surface film. It took a while to find the right fly, but a brown Klinkhammer did the trick. As if this was not enough, the evening before saw Nils land two browns, one 64 cm, the other 72 cm which by all accounts is not far off the double figures in weight! Throw in a brown of 50 cm and it makes up for a very, very interesting one and a half days Nils and Ásta had on the Minni, a haul that did nothing but uphold the rivers impressive reputation.
