Steinsmyrarvotn: A mixed record season
Steinsmyrarvotn had a record overall trout catch, yet the sea trout fishing that the area is most known for was down this year, similar to most of the other sea trout rivers og the south and west coasts. In their stead, the stationary brown trout saved the day and more of them were around.
Sea trout in Iceland: The spring fishing has picked up
The spring fishing in Iceland has become more consistent recently as the weather has turned more springlike. At the start og April it was prett y cold and the fishing suffered. At this point of the season you never know in advance and that is what delights the local spring anglers.
Prolific Steinsmyrarvotn
The seasons total for Steinsmýrarvötn was an impressive 837 brown trout, both sea run and stationary. There were also 44 char in the fishing log, although that is a lower total than could be expected. Sea trout, mostly juvenile 1 to 4 pounders plus a good sprinkling of bigger spawners were the majority of the catch in spring and autumn, while the stationary browns and the char held the torch over the middle part of the season.
