Steinsmyrarvotn had a record overall trout catch, yet the sea trout fishing that the area is most known for was down this year, similar to most of the other sea trout rivers og the south and west coasts. In their stead, the stationary brown trout saved the day and more of them were around.

The final total for Steinsmyrarvotn was 1200 trout. 900 were stationary brown trout, 233 were sea trout and 54 were char. This is also a low total for the char, so the big winner in 2009 is abviously the brown trout. Many of the browns of Steinsmyrarvotn are in the 2 to 4 pound region, great fish to deal with. They are caught throughout the season and using streamer flies is the best way to catch them.

The average weight of Steinsmyrarvotn is outstanding for lake fishing, most of the char are 3 to 6 pounds and one of them was actually a stunning 11 pounds! It was the biggest fish caught in the lake-complex this season. While most of the browns are 2-4 pounds, there are always a few bigger. The biggest sea trout were several 7 to 10 pounders.

Eleven pounds of Arctic char.

So all in all, a mixed season in the sense that whiole a record overall catch was recorded, there were still fewer sea trou and char then usual.
