The spring fishing started off remarkably well considering the acute frosty conditions. Some rivers had to delay their starting day due to them being totally under a thick ice sheet. But other rivers had slightly better conditions and following the cold snap things have gone from bad to better.  Tungufljot was one of the rivers that had a superp start.

Most of the fish were in great condition.

Another excellent sea trout about to be put back in.

Despite the howling northern wind and sub zero conditions, anglers opening the Tungufljot found a few openings in the ice. The first group actually landed 28 sea trout, most of them very big, the biggest ranging to 86 cm which accounts for 15 to 18 pounders in prime condition. This was a group of anglers that know the river well and how to reach the early season sea trout, which tend to hug the bottom and not move around that much. The next group also did very well, landing another 28 fish. Among these were several fish of 80 cm length. Over these successful days, the weather gradually turned better and the ice finally broke up. The spring season on Tungufljot usually peters out as April winds down, however groups trying their luck in early May have more often than not located fish. Sometimes even the biggest of them all.
