Icelands enigmatic Tungufljot was opened up for fishing last Friday and the group fishing over the first two days had landed 15 fish with half a shift remaining. A few of them were very big!

According to Bjarni Júlíusson, one of the anglers starting off on Tungufljot, the vast pools at the junction with Ása-Eldvatn had changed a great deal  from last season and the mingling of fresh water and glacial water was now perhaps a kilometer or further downstream. “We had to find the fish instead of walking directly to the usual hot spots. It took a a while but we reaped our just rewards and we had landed 15 sea trout by the time most of us had to leave. We had several big fish, the biggers being an 82 cm cock fish that we estimated at 14 pounds. A few were close, although slightly smaller. All in all this was a very satisfactory start to the Tungufljot season,” Bjarni said.

Tungufljots near neighbour, the Geirlandsá, had a similar emphatic start, the anglers there had 14 fish beached at the end of their opening day.
