Tungulaekur: Midsummer salmon runs right on time

The biggest salmon was an estimated twelve pounder.
Tungulaekur, one of Iceland‘s major sea trout rivers, has had some substantial salmon runs this summer and a group of Danish anglers caught ten Atlantics there recently. They also caught the first late season sea trout.

Another one of the Danish catch, estimated at eight pounds. Photos by Thorarinn Kristinsson.
According to Thorarinn Kristinsson, the rivers owner, the usual mid summer salmon runs have been bigger than usual. And they are right on time as well, as are the first sea trout. The Danes that just left caught nine sea trout as well as the first sea trout runs are entering the river system. None of them where particularly big although they were not small either, except for one of them, which in fact was not fresh run at all. However, the salmon were upto 12 pounders and the sea trout upto 6-7 pounds.
The sea trout runs will increase as August comes along, the later part of August being really strong along with all of September. So we will have more news of Tungulaekur sooner than later.
