Tungulaekur: Best ever salmon season on Iceland‘s top sea trout river

A trio of happy anglers following a good morning on Tungulaekur.
Tungulaekur has seen its best ever salmon season and these days the sea trout runs are really hotting up. The fishing has been great and the water levels consistently good due to a water regulating dam.
Thorarinn Kristinsson, the owner of the river told us that the salmon fishing had been the best ever, close to 200 were in the catch book and at least as many sea trout. The salmon fishing has been fizzing out over the past few days as the sea trout runs have grown.

September and October are traditionally the outstanding sea trout months along with April and early May. These are excellent statistics for a three rod river. Thorarinn told us that there had been far more mws salmon than ever, most of them 9 to 12 pounds but he had himself caught up to 14 pound fish. The biggest sea trout so far was an 86 cm monster estimated at 15-16 pounds the least!
Thorarinn also told us that exciting times were up and coming on Tungulaekur, which has been on the open market for the first time this year. A beautiful new lodge has been built and the added bonus of vastly improving salmon fishing on the river only made things better.
