Some sea trout rivers have slowed down as they usually do as May beckons. Some however seem to offer longer spring seasons and among them is Tungulaekur, which has seen some astonishing action recently as it appears to be well stacked with fish.

The river was closed down for several days as the main highway was closed down due to our world renouned unpronounceable volcano Bob (Eyjafjallajökull). Before that, severe frosts held the fishing back. But following the opening of the highway, as the eruption has dwindled somewhat, the fishing has been nothing less than fantastic. There were groups that could not get there and there were also some cancellation due to the volcano, so there were several days of non-fishing.

However, one angler fishing for a mere three hours on Monday evening actually hooked over 30 sea trout and landed 24. A three rod group that took over fished for only about five hours and landed 30 fish, loosing at least a dozen more.

Most of the fish are fat and silvery weighing from 3 to 5 pounds but there are still quite a few of the spawners around and the last group caught several of them ranging up to 80 cm, which accounts for 10 to 12 pounders in their prime. Traditionally, Tungulaekur is fishable well into May so there is still a chance to come up here.
