Tungulaekur: Sea trout and a big salmon!
Owner/outfitter Thorarinn Kristinsson with a twenty pound salmon.
Tungulaekur has been producing good sea trout catches over the past few weeks and the runs are getting steadier and bigger by the day. A twenty pound salmon was caught on the river a week ago!
We spoke to the outfitter Thorarinn Kristinsson and he told us that the first sea trout had entered the river in late July. A few big fish. Most anglers at the time were though catching salmon and it stayed that way into August. However after the middle of August the sea trout have been more frequent and there is a lot of 3 to 8 pound fish with a few bigger sprinkled in. The salmon fishing has stayed good and the outfitter himself was one lucky guy the other day while fishing one of the bottom pools, the Faxi. His first thought was that he had snagged a rock but the very same rock sprang to life and following a merry chase for over half an hour Thorarinn finally landed a 100 cm 20 pound cock fish which will contribute to hatchery matters later in the autumn.
