Grímsá turned out to be one of some twenty Icelandic rivers to register a record catch during the sensational 2008 season. The new record: 2.225 salmon landed. That is 109 salmon above the former record and 1.115 salmon better than last year’s total. The rivers average catch over the last ten years is 1.270 which says it all.

The start to the season was average but at the end of June the signs were in place, the grilse runs were big and ongoing. Over the length of July and August the goups set record after record. September was excellent as well although some heavy rains did cause massive flooding for a while. While the grilse were running in awesome numbers, there were also substantial mws runs, far greater than have been seen on Grímsá for years.
