Grimsa season outstanding
Outfitter Jón Thor about to release an outstanding mws on the Laxfoss beat.
Fishing is now over on the Grimsa and what an excellent season it was! While never likely to challange the record from 2008 it was never the less a total well above the last decades average. A marked upswing in mws‘s was one of the talking points of the season.
The final total for Grimsa 2010 was 1.897 salmon. Last seasons total was a sub average total of 1.339, while being a fair outcome it never the less stood out as a bit disapointing following the record of 2.225 salmon in 2008. „This was a very, very good year for us and what was most pleasing was the marked improvement in the mws runs. They have been in stark decline over the past several years, even to the point of fisheries specialists predicting that they were becoming an endangered species. But for whatever reason, there were more of the big ones around than we have seen on the Grimsa for years. And the same applies to most all Icelandic rivers this year which is a cause for celebration. May it long last,“ outfitter Jón Thor Júlíusson told us.
