Haffjardara: Aching shoulders

We feel that Haffjardara may well be spiralling into a new sensational record, its thrid in three years. Despite receeding water levels, the runs remain huge and the fishing is complimenting the runs totally. We just spoke with Einar Sigfússon, one of the rivers owners and he told us that the total so far had just crept over the one thousand mark!
„Will we see a new record? Who knows? I don‘t know. Last years amazing total was 2.011 salmon which was phenominal. But what I do know is that this is turning out to be a season of the very highest order. I was just back to the lodge having fished the bottom beat. My shoulders are aching. I landed eleven fresh run fish and lost several as well. You could say that my rod was bent the whole shift! Every pool on the river os full of fish and there are big runs of fresh ones adding to the residents every day. The water level is low but better than most other rivers in the west of Iceland as the river has three headwater lakes and their levels where very high following the winter. We then had a cold spring so the levels stayed good and fell only slowly early on. So we still have some snowfields to help us out but they are dimiishing these days and we could use a good burst of rain. We had one big shower the other night, the first one for weeks and the river rose by 4-5 cm. We need more of course but it was nice to see how little could give us a lot,“ Einar told us.
