We have had a good season on the rivers of Thistilfjordur in the northeast. Perhaps not a record beckoning but a very good season nevertheless. The catch is mostly due to good mws runs, grilse are less plentyful and some of them are very small but others reasonable and others good.

According to Larus Gunnsteinsson who is among the outfitters for the rivers, the runs have been good and the low water affecting most of Iceland‘s rivers has not had anything to do with these rivers. Hafralonsa is now close to four hundred landed salmon on its 6 rods while Svalbardsa has close to three hundred on its 2-3 daily rods. Svalbardsa is easier to fish due to its lower volume. Both rivers have had several 17 to 20 plus pound salmon this year and without a doubt more to come as they have such fish and are known to produce them.
