Twilight on Hafralonssa. Local angler Axel Oskarsson into a big one, the lodge is visible in the backdrop.

Hafralonsa finished with one of its best ever totals. A mere 74 salmon less than last years record catch, a record that might have been broken if not for a 12 day shorter season.

“We are very content. It was an excellent season for the Hafralonsa, 508 salmon in the catch book compared to 582 during last seasons record season. Who knows, we might have had an even better season this year had we not for conservative reasons among others shortened the season, taking eight days off the front and four off the back end,” Larus Gunnsteinsson, one of the rivers outfitters told us today.

Hafralonsa is one of Iceland's major mws rivers and lived up to its billing this season as did the neighbouring rivers. Many mws's were in the catch and several salmon ranging upto the 20 pound bracket.
