Hofsa is improving all the time and every beat is producing salmon. Most of the catch so far has been big salmon, mws‘s, but grilse runs are starting to dominate and they seem to be very strong, just like in the neighbouring Sela.

Yesterday evening 217 salmon had been written into the catch log. To see what‘s been going on, in comparison the total from 14 of July stood at 110 recorded salmon. The river is yet to yield its first 20plus pounder but sveral have come close and the candidates have alreday been spotted. So it is probably just a matter of time. It‘s cold up in the northeast at the moment, high northern winds, rain and tempertures just above freezing. Very unusual for Iceland during late July although not unheard of by any means. But the forecast tells us that is will be a very short bout of bad weather, then back to summer.
