Langa celebrated a magnificent record catch for 2008. All in all, 2.972 salmon were caught, 567 more than the former record which was established twenty years ago. Towards the end, many were hoping that the river would turn the 3.000 salmon corner, but heavy flooding at the end put paid to that.

The water regulating dam did its duty as there was little rain early on and the snow fields melted fast in the warm weather. The river was finally very low yet the standard of the fishing was remarkably upheld due to the fact that there were so damn many fish in the river. Then as the season wore on it rained now and then, sometimes more, sometimes less and finally in September it rained a lot. In fact to much at times, resulting in huge floods, one of them the biggest seen for years. But despite the inconsistencies, the season was a brilliant one.

Langa’s salmon are predominantly grilse but as in many Icelandic rivers, there were more mws’s than usual.
