For the big ones, look up the big Laxa

The Nes beats on the big Laxa have been enjoying the luxury of having few if any grilse interfearing with the average weight of salmon caught on the beats so far. The weight has been close to 17 pounds which is remarkable but will not last once the grilse arrive.
The grilse have been late. The Nes beats are quite far upriver while the lower beats have seen quite a few of them recently and all in all the lower beats, leased by the Laxárfélag, have produced some 390 salmon while the Nes beats have contributed some 70 according to Orri Vigfússon the chairman of the Laxarfelag. „Although we have a higher total, we have the same ratio of mvs versus grilse. Most of our 390 are big fish, we have only had the grilse around for the last week or so,“ Orri told us.
Recently, Lilla Rowcliff enjoyed her twentieth season on the Nes beats and celebrated by landing three super salmon, one of 19 pounds, another of 20 pounds and finally the third a whopper of 22 pounds! Lilla, by the way is an 84 year old, blessed with great health and a shingin beacon for other elderly statesmen and women!
