More huge fish than usual!
A very "average" salmon for the "big" Laxá this year!
We had a talk with Orri Vigfússon, the chairman on the NASF, we actually met him without a plan in the northeast Vopnafjodur. He told us of an astonishing average weight on the “big” Laxá this year.
At the time (a week ago) the river had produced some 850 salmon and the beats of the Laxárfélag had nearly or just over 600. Of that total there where 70 salmon of the average weight of 20 pounds , fish ranging from 18 to 22 pounds. On the other beats, most notably the “Nes” beats, there where probably 20-30 more of the same weight. This is far more than marginally more than usual and far more than usual over the last decade or so. A hundred salmon of ca 850 is actually very unusual for Iceland. So long may it last
