Laxa in Kjos is back on track following the long draught period that hit most of Iceland. It finally rained and the fish were quick to move. It was as if the river had been given an electric jolt. The first full rainy day produced all of ninety hookups and 55 of those were landed. And we are then only talking about the salmon. The river is loaded with sea trout as well.

According to Gylfi Gautur Pétursson, the riverkeeper on Kjos the daily catch has cranked up from a handfull per day during the draughts upto 40 to 60 per day. „The fish quickly moved to the upper river from the slow flats in the middle river where they had stored up. The fishing picked up instantly and as we speak the whole river is producing fine catches. The river has now exceeded 600 salmon and with the conditions improving we see nothing but great times ‚till the end of the season,“ Gylfi was quoted as saying.

Kjos‘s catch is mainly grilse this year, there are few mws‘s and many of the rivers biggest fish so far have been 8 to 10 pound sea trout. One even bigger, a huge fish measuring 90 cm that we reported earlier.
