The best from Midfjardara for years

Argentínumaður með 104 cm hæng úr Miðfjarðará

The biggest from Midfjardara 2008, a 104 cm cock fish from Kambsfoss pool on Austura.

Midfjardara had one of its best seasons for years in 2008, establishing a total catch of 1.731 salmon compared to 1.131 in 2007.  To put this into a better perspective, the ten year average total from the river is 1.176, so close to the total in 2007. The 2008 total is far higher than the average. The record for the river was not under threat though, it stands at 2.385 salmon.

The excellent 2008 total is very interesting as for big chunks of the prime season, the water was very low due to lack of rain. It mattered not as far more fish were running than in 2007 and as the levels were slightly more favorable early on than last year, the salmon simply waded up the rivers. Grilse runs were steady and good and there were good runs of mws as well. The odd monster popped up as well, the biggest a 104 cm monster caught in the falls pool at Kambsfoss late in August.
