“This is definitely better than we were anticipating. In fact this is almost to good to be true. The fishing is amazing, yet the conditions are far from favorable, so that makes it even bettar,” Rafn Valur Alfreðsson, outfitter of Midfjardara told us today, the most recent group of clients had just left the river having landed 218 salmon!

218 in three days is amazing for Midfjardara which is not meant as a put down. These are statistics that were last to be found in the “old days” when Midfjardara was in its last big upswing. To land so many salmon on ten rods during bad conditions, low water and persistent northern winds, is worth a feature any time.

“I don’t have the statistics just now, but quite a few of all these fish are mws’s although the majority are big and healthy looking grilse. We are not exactly giving it a thought though, as we are to busy enjoying the upswing,” Rafn told us.

Midfjardara has a mandatory catch-release rule for the big fish and a voluntary c-r for grilse. Rafn told us that out of 13000 landed fish this season, 1100 had been released.
