While the draughts have ravished the westland rivers, several of the northern rivers have blossomed and some of them wil record record catches this season. Among them is the Midfjardara, the first river this season to register a record catch.
Despite low water conditions, the fishing has been amazing and the runs strong. Last Wedensday night 2.784 salmon had been recorded in the catch book. Some of the fishing had been out of this world. The outfitter, Rafn Valur took a foreign guest to a small pool just above Túnhylur as the river was rising and the salmon on the move. They hooked and landed thirty in three hours! So with such tales to tell, it is not strange that we are looking at a record catch.
The record now shattered is from the year 1977 when 2.581 salmon where landed. So the record is already 203 salmon in the plus side and as we still have some three weeks yet for Midfjardara, we are looking at a stunning season! Several rivers in the north are looking like they will aquire new records, but we will see!
