The season has now ended on Midfjardara and they‘ll hardly see another season like it. The final total turned out to be an astonishing 4.004 salmon, 1.423 more then the previous record for the river, a record set more than thirty years ago.

„This was a truly enourmos season, we are looking at a total of 4.004 salmon despite the fact that the conditions for fishing were unfavorable for most of the season. It hardly ever rained and the water levels just kept dropping.

But when there are so damn many fish running there just has to be great fishing. Even throughout September every group was catching just under, about, or just over a hundred salmon each. They just kept running, we were even getting sea liced mws‘s deep into September which is very unusual.

One of the big ones this season.

This was obviously a trend in the western north, as all of our neighbouring rivers were fantastic as well. But Midfjardara definately stood out,“ Rafn Valur Alfreðsson, the rivers manager told us in an interview over the weekend.

As stated, the former record was 2.581 salmon in the season of 1977. That is 1.423 fish less then the new record. Not that far off last seasons total of just over 1.700 which was actually thought to be a very good outcome.
