Selá had a fine season 2008

Selá did very well in 2008 despite the fact that grilse runs were poor in the northeast and east. Selá felt it. There were fewer grilse and many of them stunted. Despite this, the 2008 total was a solid 2.054 salmon, not that far off from 2007’s excellent result, 2.227. Selá’s consistency over the last few years has been tremendous as the rivers record catch is only three years old, a massive 2.726 salmon. Selá now hardly ducks under 2.000 and the 2008 is way over the ten year average for the river, 1.675 salmon.
As the grilse were few and many of them small the catch is obviously to a very large degree mws salmon and their average weight and condition was phenomenal. Most of them were in the 10 to 14 pound region but there were many ranging to 18-19 pounds and the river produced several 20 pound plus salmon. More than usuall. So if people actually feel that the river was lacking in numbers then it certainly covered it up by the outstanding quality of the catch.
