Straumfjardara hada great season 2008 Straumfjardara had an excellent season, as did most if not all rivers in Iceland, more notably though on the western part of the country. 718 salmon was the total for the 3 to 4 rods fishing the river. It is a mere few less than the record season from the year before.

As with most of the westland rivers, this astonishing total was accumulated despite long draughts and resulting low water conditions. The telling factor was that the draught did not kick in until the runs had already started, so they did not diminish despite the receeding levels. And also, there were stunning runs in 2008. Record runs. In fact, the draughts did probably stop the river registering a new record.

The season of 2008 marked the opening of the rivers new beautiful lodge. The old lodge was sufficient but the new one is super excellent. And brilliantly placed, overlooking some of the rivers best pools.
