Vatnsdalsa: A tale of two anglers and the salmon that bound them

Vatnsdalsa is producing its best fishing for years. Recently a gropup finished with 80 plus salmon and the river has exceeded 600 salmon with the traditionally best weeks only just starting about now! A tall tale was told on Vatnsdalsa‘s banks over the weekend, this new boy who had a big fish break off only to....
....right, only to later be handed the fly that broke off, along with a photo of the fish, which turned out to be a 90 cm salmon that had traveled twenty kilometers upstream before hooking up with a new angler two days later! The novice had only just landed his first ever salmon on a fly on Hnausastrengur and then minutes later was into a big one which broke the leader. He needed considerable consoling, but life went on in the northland valley. On the final shift a lady angler in the group was fishing the pool Línufljot, twenty kilometers upstream. She hooked a beauty and landed it after a stiff fight. Just as she was about to loosen her grip and wave goodby, she noticed a leader straggling down the salmons side. After a quick investigation she found a small fly nestling in the salmon‘s scissors. It turned out to be the fly that had been broken off earlier. So, upon returnng to the lodge, the lady presented the angler with his fly, complete with a photo of herself posing with the magnificent salmon. A sign of what might have been indeed!.
The fish in the photo is a recent ca 20 pounder from the Vatnsdalsa
