Hruta coming to life

A big one from Hruta. Photo from Strengir.
Despite high nortern winds, falling water levels and a receeding tide these days, Hruta has been staging a revival. The past few days have been good despite the unfavorable conditions and this traditionally „late“ river is coming to life at a time when it really should do so!
The group that is currently fishing the river had finished two shifts when we called them up at mid-day. They had landed seven salmon and four big sea char weighting up to 5 pounds. The salmon were for the most part big grilse. „We are seeing quite a lot of salmon despite the windy conditions and they seem to be on the move all the time. There is an urgency in them, as if they have been waiting in the salt and have lost their patience,“ Konráð Jónsson told us. „We would have several more I‘m sure if the weather was more quiet, not to mention if the water level was better. But there is no reason to complain, we are having a great time here and the fishing is really good,“ Konráð added. The group before them landed eight salmon and at mid-day the catch book had 25 recorded salmon. Prime time is about to start just about now....
