Hruta off to a good start

Fishing on the Hruta started on the first day of July and has been ticking along nicely since, although the water is now starting to run low. The fishing has been good and there have been some big fish lurking around.
A 17 pounder from Hruta.
A week ago over seventy salmon had been written into the catch book and we understand that the total is now close to 100 which is very good considering the low water and the fact that the river is usually more lively as the season progresses. There was a very good mws-versus-grilse ratio early on but the grilse have started to become more prominent recently as was to be expected. Two very big specimens have been landed already, one of 100 cm and another of 103 cm, the former probably around 20 pounds, the latter perhaps a 22 pounder. Both were released as is fast becoming the norm in Iceland, mws's are increasingly protected by law. Now, anlgers ptay for rain in the Icelandic northwest!
