The smolt project aimed at turning the Jokla river system into a salmon fishing paradise took a positive turn yesterday when it was reveiled that the first ever salmon had been caught on the systems upper beats.There had previously been doubts as to weather the salmon could run that far up due to obsticles.

The old Canadian geezers opening Breiddalsa have finally broken their duck, as they landed three salmon yesterday. The group has an averag age of 90 according to outfitter Throstur Ellidason and he states that it is an honour and priviledge to cater to them.

Jökla on the up in 2008 - 5.11.2008 News

Some 180 salmon were caught in Jökla and her tributaries in the 2008 season. That is 60 salmon up from 2007 and while the manager Þröstur Elliðason syas that he would have loved to see a sharper upward curve, he is nevertheless thankful that his experiment at least withheld its upward spiral. “We will be hoping for a sharper improvement next year for sure,” Þröstur told us recently.
