An outstanding record for Jökla
The Jökla project in the northeast is blossoming this season. Having gained credibility it is now fished by more people, resulting in its showing better its worth. Already a record catch has been established.
One of three 90-96 cm
Last Wedensday night the total for Jökla had reached 425 salmon landed. Its best ever record dating way back to last year when the river system produced just over 300 salmon. It is still to be fished throughout most of September and as the beats are better booked then ever, the fish are pouring in, and the conditions are good, the new record will be quite something!
Despite the fact that grilse runs are not great in Iceland this year, especially in the North and Northeast, many rivers in the Northeast are doing great due to excellent runs of mws´s. Jökla has seen its fair share of them and twenty pound plus fish have been landed as well as broken off. One angler recently did quite well, and amongst his catch were three salmon ranging from 90 to 96 cm, respectively 15 to 18 pounders!
So Jökla is clearly establishing itself as a major salmon destination in Iceland and it is worth noting as well, that the system has very good trout fishing as a by-product, both with sea run char and stationary brown trout.
