Best start ever for Skoga

A good looking Skoga grilse with the prolific tube fly Skoga.is dangling from its jaw.
The first two day party on Skoga finished at noon today. The outfitter Asgeir Asmundsson and his family started the season, and two days earlir than usual at that. „You never know and you wonder all the time, but this start was the best ever for the river Asgeir told us today.
All in all, Asgeirs party landed 15 salmon, which were almost all 5-6 pound grilse. Three were 8 pounders and kept for the hatchery, while the others were all released. „We need to think about our customers, so we released the lot,“ Asgeir told us. There is always a little friendly tension in our group as to who will catch the first salmon. I was sentenced to the bottom beat, partially to check if the seals were keeping their distance from the estuary. I took my rods and decided to try pool number 1, the sea pool, which has never in memory produced a salmon. But things apparently change, as I hooked and lost three salmon in the first three casts. All broke off within a minute and I was into the next one on the very next cast. The fourth time I got lucky and landed the first of the season, five minutes past four in the afternoon.Nobody came close to me!!, Asgeir told us.
Vatnsa will be opening next Thursday but Asgeir told us that it is very low following the lack of rain over the last few weeks. Vatnsa is a tributary to the glacial Kerlingardalsa which has had some runs of both salmon and sea trout so there will most likely be some action in the two rivers junction at the very least.
